Open School and Private Candidates are unable to apply with NEET Exam 2018

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET Exam is the entrance exam for students who want to go for graduation in medical course, dental course or postgraduate course in government or private medical colleges of India. This is a national level exam, but it was not meant for open school and private candidates. So, students from open school and private candidates were not entitled to appear in NEET 2018. These students don’t fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria for NEET exam 2018.

However, after the intervention of the Honorable High Court, Delhi the organizing authorities allowed the open and private candidates to appear in the NEET exam 2018 as per the public notice dated 01/03/2018 from CBSE, Delhi. But, despite the order from the Honorable High Court, Delhi; a number of students are unable to apply online due to some technical glitch on the online application website for NEET Exam 2018.

What was the “technical glitch” with NEET online application form?

The eligibility criteria for NEET Exam 2018 disqualified open school and private candidates to appear in it. This was the reason that they didn’t keep a provision for open school and private candidates in their online application form.

Later, after the intervention of the Honorable High Court, Delhi, CBSE had withdrawn the restriction for open school and private candidates for appearing in NEET exam. Here, came the technical glitch as earlier it was not meant for open school and private candidates; so there were some mandate options to fill some details, which is not applicable for open school and private candidates.

How the technical glitch got noticed?

So, due to this issue; despite the order from the High Court, students were facing issues with it. Due to this issue, there were some complaints registered with NIOS authorities; who took it further with CBSE for resolution. As per the official spokespersons from CBSE; “We are working on the problem. The students can fill only their Class XII details in the box and the system should accept.”

The NIOS officials also acknowledged the same as; “the issue could be solved only on Monday, the next working day. Board officials termed the problem a technical glitch.”

What is the solution for technical glitch with the NEET online application?

The CBSE released a public notice for the same as a solution for that technical glitch on 05.03.2018 stating; “it is informed that candidates from Open School and Private Candidates when submitting their application form for NEET (UG), 2018, may submit details as suggested below under the information of Class XI.”

  • NAME OF SCHOOL/COLLEGE – SAME AS OF CLASS XII
  • Year of Passing – ONE YEAR BEFORE THE PASSING OF CLASS XII
  • Place of Study – AS APPLICABLE
  • State where Class XI School/College is located – AS OF CLASS XII
  • District where Class XI School/College is located – AS OF CLASS XII

The last date for applying with NEET Exam 2018 is 09.03.2018 (Friday) up to 23:50 Hrs. (IST) and successful payment of online fee is 10.03.2018 (Saturday) up to 23:50 Hrs. (IST); so students are advised to fill their online form as earliest possible and pay online fee too. However, the court is about to decide, whether the students from open and private candidatures will be allowed to write the exams or not.

This entrance exam is mandatory to apply for MBBS and BDS courses in various government and private medical science institutes. This year, CBSE is conducting the NEET Exam 2018 this year. They have released the official eligibility criteria for the same. And, as per the initial notifications; students who are from NIOS/State Open School or private students were not eligible to appear NEET. Also, students who have passed Biology as an additional subject were not allowed to apply NEET Exam 2018.

This was considered against the interest of the students who were not able to make it as a regular student or who have completed their +2 with Biology as an additional subject. Later, the issue has been registered with NIOS by students, in order to get an equal opportunity to decide their dream career with medical science.

The same has been taken up to the Honorable High Court of Delhi; which came into the favor of open school and private candidates on 28th February’ 2018. The CBSE accepted the verdict and later on 1st of March they have released a public notice for the same. After the verdict, the following students are also eligible to apply for NEET Exam 2018 as given here.

The Honorable High Court of Delhi and NEET exam 2018 organizing authority grant permission to students from open school and private candidates to appear in the exam, which was not there before. After this decision; students from open school and private candidates can also apply for NEET.

But, here came a twist; as NEET was not meant for open school and private candidates; so there is no provision for these candidates to mention their qualification details (especially the class 11th details) and neither they can skip some of this information; it has been declared as a technical glitch in the online NEET application for open school and private candidates. The same has been brought in the notice of CBSE; after that CBSE released another notice with the latest development with it.

Students can take reference from the above information and apply online for NEET Exam 2018 this year. The mentioned “technical glitch” has been fixed successfully with it.

Should You Drop NEET 2018 by a Year to Prepare Better?

“I want to be a doctor” – You might have answered so to your class teacher when asked during your school time. Now that you are all grown-up, it’s time to achieve what you have dreamt once.

NEET is the only central level entrance examination to get admission to MBBS and BDS courses. This year, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is going to be held on May 6. With a couple days to spare for the last day to submit the NEET 2018 application form (March 9), aspiring candidates don’t want to take any chance by waiting till the last moment. While most of them have already submitted the application form, there are still a good number of candidates contemplating over appearing the exam. They are in the notion that dropping a year would enhance the preparation and score better when appear the exam next year.

How to Know If Dropping a Year or Two Is Good?

A recent study by a leading educational magazine, most NEET aspirants, when asked about dropping a year, said that they are not well-prepared for the entrance exam due to lack of time; some said they are not quite confident about their chances; and others said they are more focused on the Board examinations. All these statements have valid points – it’s okay! Cracking the toughest entrance exam is not a piece of cake. Applicants must have 55% in subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Since it has a vast curriculum and there is high rivalry, it can certainly distress the students. Maybe all these aspects lead a NEET aspirant to rethink before appearing the test.

Seek advice from elders, contact previous years’ candidates who have attempted and cleared the test or if possible, take a piece of paper and note down the pros and cons of not appearing the exam for a year. This way, the exam burden can be lessened to some extent.

Advantages:

  • You will have enough time to understand the complete NEET exam pattern, syllabus and other important things related to the entrance examination; hence, the preparation will be based on the same.
  • Taking early decision (the idea of dropping the exam) can help you appear in board exams with less stress; and you can possibly score better.
  • Taking up mock test and practicing previous years’ question papers will come in handy tremendously.

Disadvantages:

  • The major disadvantage of not appearing the exam will increase the stress of clearing it next time. The expectations from parents, relatives and teacher go high.
  • Self-study wouldn’t be enough as it involves a lot of self-restraint and commitment.
  • The fear of lagging behind and not matching up with friends in starting college together.
  • You will miss out on getting first-hand exam experience.

To appear or not to appear is completely your own decision. But being focused and sticking to it with great dedication and complete conviction will certainly help you get into your favorite medical college.
